Research indicates that the initial years of a child’s life are critical to brain
development, academic achievement, and later life outcomes for that child. The
short time it takes to conduct a developmental and behavioural screen can change
the trajectory of a child’s life forever. The goal is for the school to intervene, or
step in, and start helping before anyone falls really far behind.
The goal of the Learning Support Department is to have a robust early intervention and screening program and to develop a successful response to intervention model.
The Learning Support Department provides specialised direct intervention sessions , indirect , interventions and/or differentiation support for students identified through the screening as requiring intensive learning support in the areas of reading, writing, maths and pre-requisite learning skills . It aims to work in close co-operation with home room teachers, subject teachers, specialists, external therapists and parents.
